The Nine Behaviors of Leadership™
Module 4:
Preparing People For Change

Change is a constant in today’s world. While most people feel comfortable with basic changes, such as the addition or elimination of certain tasks, larger changes such as mergers, downsizing or acquisitions often produce great anxiety. Leaders must learn to prepare people for change at all levels.

Exceptional leaders must understand the psychological impact of change and be sensitive to people’s needs as they plan strategies during times of transformation. For successful change to occur, leaders must focus honestly on the people most affected and develop trusting relationships, facilitate transitions, and generate commitment to change by recognizing the four stages of personal response: Denial, Resistance, Adaptation, and Commitment.
